TANNADICE MILL
Overlooking the South Esk River and located in the picturesque village of Tannadice, Scotland, this project takes on the challenge of converting a disused water mill into a modern and comfortable four bedroom house.
Besides the constraints of dealing with an existing structure dating back several centuries, this project also needs to cope with the harsh Scottish climate. Therefore the heating for the whole house is provided via an air-source heat pump underfloor heating system, whilst the downstairs snug and open plan living space are supplemented with a double sided wood burner.
Wanting to keep some of the existing scale, the house is designed around a double height open plan living space used mainly for entertaining, and from which the family can 'retreat' into smaller and cosier spaces including a snug on the Ground Floor, and private bedrooms on the floor above.
